ITS' been awhile since I posted here, I know. I was hoping to post once a week, but most of the last month, I was too busy
to spend very much, or indeed, any, time in front of the computer, let alone keep anyone up to date with what I am working
on.
So, without further ado, here is the latest news.
I currently have two projects in the works. I plan to start
the next drafts of both my serial killer story, Evil Twin, and my next Charlie Rowe novel, Old Wounds, this
week.
The writing of Evil Twin has been quite the ride. I wrote the original draft some years ago, incorporating
a short story I wrote in the 90s as the new Chapter 1 of what is now a novelette length project. Recently, I took it out and
decided to get it ready for publication. So far, this has involved scrapping roughly 3/4 of what I wroteand replacing it with
all new characters. However, since I think I now have a stronger story, I'm not too upset.
Among the changes I made
was to get rid of two lead characters and replace them with one. Originally, this was one of the two original leads, if that
makes sense, but I have since created a new lead character, an actress turned private investigator named Sydney Carter, as
being a better fit for the story.
I am contemplating changing the name of the story, as Evil Twin no longer
fits, but I am not certain what to change it to.
The harder part will be the next Charlie Rowe novel, Old Wounds.
I have roughly 34000 words at present, which is novella length, but I want to increase it by half again and make it into a
full-blown novel, if at all possible. This won't be easy, needless to say, and I hope my writing skills are up to the challenge.
Either
way, I should have Evil Twin done and published by the end of January at the very latest, although of course, we all know
what happens when I try to set deadlines. Old Wounds will take longer, but should be ready some time in 2017.
And that's
not even talking about other projects I want to work on.
Still, I'd rather have too many projects than not enough.
